Refreshing a tired kitchen in Stanton St Bernard

This kitchen in Stanton St Bernard was looking tired and needed freshening up. A home visit showed that the cabinets were in good condition, making them a sound starting point for the refresh.

The simple Shaker doors had neither aged nor gone out of fashion. Replacing them rather than spraying the existing ones wasn't justified.

The refresh work

Spraying the existing doors: The 20 doors, panels, extractor hood and dresser unit were sprayed in a bold green, updating the kitchen while retaining its Shaker design.
Updating the worktops and sink: Lightly veined quartz worktops were fitted with an undermount ceramic sink. The sink was moved into the centre of its wide cabinet for better symmetry with the large window.
Refinishing the timber: The wooden island and windowsill were refinished with sprayed lacquer.
Replacing the cooker tiles: The tiles behind the range cooker were replaced as part of the refresh.

The result and the figures

The kitchen was refreshed without replacing its sound cabinets or its 20 existing Shaker doors.
Bold green paintwork, quartz worktops and refinished timber updated the room, while repositioning the sink improved symmetry with the window.
The project cost was £12,000–£15,000. The work took several weeks in the spray booth and two weeks on site.
